Machines' videos were (in order):

X-insurrection (from the first album) dir. by Kevin Borque
Butterfly Wings (from the second) dir. by Julie Hermelin
Perfect Tan (also from the second) dir. by Julie Hermelin
Richest Junkie (from Gilt) dir. by Jon Reiss

Some related trivia: I think X-insurrection was shot on some stoopid-small budget, like $5k. The others were much higher-budget. "X" got some airplay on MTV - a show they used to have called 120 Minutes. Same with Butterfly Wings, though that got some regular rotation during prime time MTV as well. Perfect Tan also got some MTV time, though not as much. So far as I know, MTV never aired "Richest Junkie". At the time, they were "concerned" about a shot in which one of the characters is seen touching the ass of a mannequin (I'm not making this up). By the time we'd gotten around to editing the "offending" shot out, the good that could have been done by some MTV rotation would have been diminished anyways.

As for ARF videos, that's a possibility I suppose. I'd need to find some director-type looking to put something together on a shoestring. And come to think of it, I'm not entirely sure what I'd -do- with a video if I had one. It's not like I'm gonna be on MTV anytime soon. Maybe if I changed the name of the project to "Amish Rake Fight Featuring Moby and BT" then it'd get some attention. ha.

I'd think something Underworld-esque would be appropriate. Like what Chris put together for that one Micronaut track.

Does ASU have a communications or art program or anything? My university used to love taking projects from industry and making students work on them.

Do you have the videos in a format that you could post somewhere? i'd like to see them if it were possible...

Man, is that the same Jon Reiss that did all those crazy NIN Videos? That's pretty wild...

Oh, and a Positron DVD featuring videos WOULD be pretty neat!

Yes, that's the same Jon Reiss that did the NIN stuff.

I may have the videos on tape somewhere, but I don't have them in any sort of digitized format. Not sure I'd be able to legally put them up somewhere anyways.

I don't know if ASU has an art/media program or not, that's an interesting thought.

The big thing at ASU lately is interdisciplinary studies. link [www.west.asu.edu]

I used to work with a guy whose degree was business (at ASU), but he's a film hobbyist and was in the film club or something like that. I went to one of their filmmakers' showcases and there was definitely a lot of talent (college students work for ramen btw haha). I bet you could find some starving student to do something cool. I currently go to ASU, so if I can help let me know. Here's a major and a minor program involving media.

Media Arts
The Media Arts concentration of the IAP degree has been structured so as to raise and explore a broad range of artistic and social concerns through a variety of disciplines while maintaining an emphasis on electronic media and new technologies. The focus area puts equal emphasis on artistic creation, technique, history and theory; through projects, assignments, and readings. Students from all disciplines will become familiar with the elements of current media technologies and will incorporate these in the creation of their own work. Examples include CD ROMs, digitally-edited videos, graphics brochures and electronic art installations (Sound Artists from Mexico).

Film and Video Studies Minor
The Minor in Film and Video Studies contains two tracks: Film Studies and Media and Video Studies. The two tracks largely parallel one another and share a common set of core courses. Each track consists of 21 semester hours with a minimum of 15 credit hours required at the upper division level. In each track, students are required to take two core courses and five elective courses. A student may transfer six credit hours of lower division coursework to be applied to the electives. Students in either track may also pursue independent study opportunities with approval of a faculty advisor. A required capstone project of three upper division credits under the prefix IAP 480 rounds out the requirements for the minor.

The Film and Video Studies minor is a program of the Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance Department in collaboration with the departments of: American Studies, Communications Studies, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Women's Studies.
