Replies: 19 Worst movie ever made?
posted April 2, 2005 by Mike Fisher
I have to say, Sin City is without question one of the worst films I've ever had the displeasure of wasting good money on.

If you're even remotely considering seeing it, please save yourself the anguish. Or at the very least, wait until it's 2 for 1 night at the local video store or something.

Yes, it's really that bad.

what about Sister Act 2?

Hadnt heard of Sin City, but it seems to suffer from having too many big names in it

Okay, you might have me there on "Sister Act 2".

My biggest problem with Sin City (but by no means my only problem with it) actually has to do witih the way it was marketed. If you watched the trailers on TV, you wouldn't have gotten anything close to a sense for how violent and graphic (pardon the pun) the movie is. Consequently, you might end up bringing kids to see it ("hey, let's go see that cartoon action movie!"). There were a -lot- of children in the audience when I saw this movie, and I'm really sickened by that. I blame the parents of those kids first and foremost, since they should have known better, and/or should have taken the time to read a review or something. But after that, I blame the studio and then the filmmakers.

Separately, the acting mostly sucks, and the dialog is mostly incipid. I'll say this for Sin City - it looks really neat. So, if you're into graphic novels or art direction, it's worth seeing parts of it on that basis. But overall, in my view, it's a steaming heap of crap.

Gozu is this Japanese movie by Takashi Miike (of "Ichi the Killer" fame). The first half or so is incredibly dull, where nothing interesting happens, and keeps on happening. Finally, when things do start happening, they're the sorts of things that you really wish wouldn't. And it's still not exciting. It's probably the worst movie I've ever watched all the way through.

Meh, I dug Sin City but I'm also really into Frank Miller's illustration and Rodriguez movies (with the exception of the Spy Kids series).

I agree though, it's far too violent for children but their parent's should be slapped for taking them to a rated R movie anyway.

I remember my dad took me to see Aliens when it came out and I was scarred for quite some time after that.

Re: Children at Sin City...I agree its violent and I definately would disagree with kids going to it. But having said that, the movie is rated R (or is it NC-17?) for a reason. To my way of thinking, if parents aren't going to follow that rating scale for a movie just because it looks cartoonish, then that's kinda like the tail wagging the dog in my opinion. The rating scale should exist to tell parents whether or not the medium in question is appropriate-not the other way around.

The worst movie ever made (or quite possibly the best) is Manos the Hands of Fate.

I take your point, and as I stated originally I blame the parents first for bringing children to that kind of movie. But I also think there's such a thing as inappropriate marketing - for example, tobacco companies using images and language they know that kids will respond to.

But you guys would agree that it's okay for kids to go see "The Passion of the Christ", right?

I mean, because, after all, that's OUR LORD up there, suffering for our sins, and all. That movie was all about his love for us, and stuff.

[ Kids seeing movies they are not mature enough to. ]

My girlfriend and I both like horror films.

We're both in our 30's and reasonably well adjusted, and I don't normally walk around seeking faults in others.

That being said, I found it shocking that people had brought their
four year old to see 28 Days Later (The zombie flick).

On another occasion we saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where a couple seven year old twins were sitting by their Mom.

I get that rated R requires parental permission, but maybe a healthy dose of cluebat is what's needed with some people.

Poor kids must have soiled themselves.
